Just BREATHE...
I don’t know about you, but I’m finding it harder to keep my emotions in check. I consider myself a pretty calm person, but these past few weeks have been trying to say the least.
In moments of uncertainty I continue to remind myself to be still and just BREATHE. The power of stillness is amazing!
We have to learn and practice to focus on the things we do have control over. That is how we minimize anxiety/depression and overwhelming uncertainty.
Here are some tips to reduce negative thoughts during a crisis/hardship:
1. Cry. It’s ok to show emotion. Crying can be sign of strength and awareness. It is important to be in touch with how we are feeling.
2. Talk about your feelings with friends and family. You will find that you have more in common with others than you think. Talking it out, helps to reduce feelings of stress and anxiety.
3. Reduce time spent on Social Media! We have to be cognizant of what we are consuming mentally. There is a lot of negative material and misinformation that affects our state of being.
4. Get some Fresh air and sunshine! Take a moment to get out of the house...practicing social distancing of course. Walk around your neighborhood, admire the trees and flowers. Focus on the beauty around you.
5. Spend time with family. For many of us, working and day to day life has not allowed us to really focus on our loved ones. Create new games and fun activities to do together.
6. Exercise and eat healthy. This is a great time to move your your body! Exercise reduces stress and keeps you grounded. Fueling your body with good foods such as protein and veggies, will also keep you healthy and feeling good!
7. Focus on your goals! This is a good time to work on bettering our situations! Think about how your life can be better in the future. Take steps to accomplish those things that you have not had time to focus on.
These are just a few positive steps I am taking to get through this difficult time. We are in this together! Please remember to practice self care. This is the only way to give yourself the best and give your best to others!
